Establishing A Nursery School In Lenkisem - Kenia - A Needy But Willing Community

We are a community Maasai, in Lenkisem area, a place of 20 Km from Amboseli National Park. We are pastoralists and at times we are forced by the wether changes, like prolonged droughts to move with cattle’s from another place to the other looking for better pastures. Friends, it came a time last year when we had a very long famine and a lot of cattle’s diedof the drought and we were totally poor.

Now life must continue and we hope in God that will succeed together. We live in a very far place from the local town center where our young children are not able to attend the school. The nearest school towards north of our area is about 42 Km and the other one from south is from 15 Km and the nursery kids of almost 3 to 6 years are not able to reach there.

The community sat down and decided that the start something that could lead to establish of the coolness fenced around a tree and some seats made from local materials: i.e. branches and roots. We brought children, employed a teacher and the kids are studying under a tree.

Now friends when the children are studying under the tree can be some challenges like the wind and sun they can be disturbed by this weather conditions.

Again friends when its time the rains are there the children and the teacher could not have an opportunity to study because it rains to them and this is very dangerous. The shelter our children are studying at is prone to the calamities and this might hinder them from the basic need.

We therefore appeal to any stakeholder to help us and our children in the realization of the shelter for this innocent, witch the parents sat and decided to think if they can get any help witch will enable them start class.

We look forward to seeing this achieved.

With great regards,
